Watermelon

As it occurs with melon, HORTOMELÃO produces several varieties of watermelon. Watermelon is from the same family of melon and pumpkin, but it’s 92% made of water. It contains vitamins A, B1, B5 and C, as well as minerals like calcium, iron and mostly phosphorus. It can be well kept for one week at room temperature and for two weeks if kept in the refrigerator wrapped in cling film.

Planting season: April, May, June

Commercialization: July, August, September, October

BLACK WATERMELON

Its shape is round and its weight can vary between 2 and 15kg. The peel is smooth and glossy, of a very dark purple color. The pulp is red and the seeds can be black or dark brown.

STRIPED WATERMELON

Similar to the black watermelon, the main differences are in the shape, which is oval, and in the peel, which is dark green, with stripes of a lighter green. The pulp is equally red and the seeds can be black or dark brown.

YELLOW WATERMELON

This variety has a round shape and it’s slightly smaller then the striped and black watermelons, being able to reach a size between 25 and 60 cm. Its peel is light green, smooth and glossy, with dark green stripes. The pulp is very crunchy and has few or no seeds, of a cream or white color.

SEEDLESS WATERMELON

If at any moment you gave up the freshness of a good watermelon due to its «annoying seeds», you have a solution here, a seedless watermelon. The same flavor and freshness with greater comfort. The kids will also appreciate it!

MINI WATERMELON

Equally refreshing, its greater advantage is that, because it’s more compact, its nutrition values and sensory qualities are more concentrated.
